TREAT U on the way for internationalization

TREAT U is one of five technological Portuguese companies that were chosen by the “Residence Entrepreneurship” pilot project, from Carnegie Mellon University.

TREAT U is dedicated to the development of targeted nanotechnology-based platforms for the specific delivery of drugs (either small drugs or siRNA) with technological advantages that outrun different products commercially available or in clinical trials, namely in the Oncology area. Treat U’s platforms are an appealing technology for the Pharmaceutical Industry for the reason that they bring value to patients and the healthcare system, but also because they are able to add new value to drugs going off patent, extending the life cycle of the company’s pipeline.

The history of TREAT U accumulates almost two decades on the development of nanotechnologic platforms for the treatment of oncologic patients and leadership in research projects funded by The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), Innovation Agency (ADI) and the Pharmaceutical Industry. Moreover, the team is made up by some of the founders of Bluepharma – Pharmaceutical Industry S.A. and Luzitin, S.A. and by the Head of Clinical Research of the first medicine approved for commercialization in Portugal by BIAL (Portela & Cª, S.A.). Thus, Treat U has gathered a team with competencies on the design and development of nanotechnology-based platforms. The founder partners (Vera Moura, João Nuno Moreira and Sérgio Simões) have a scientific background in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Bluepharma Pharmaceutical Industry S.A has recently joined the team. Along with the consultancy of experts in the field of pharmacology, drug development, clinical trials and business development, the different needs within the medicine value chain are fully addressed.

The market strategy of TREAT U is to out-license proprietary technology to pharmaceutical companies, as soon as Phase I or Phase II clinical testing is concluded.

The program with Carnegie Mellon University enables Treat U to find partners and investors outside the national market and enter in the worldwide market of targeted therapies in the Oncology field.
