Short biography
Sérgio Simões has a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a Master degree in Engineering Sciences and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics. He has a position as assistant professor at Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra – Portugal, he is Member of the Board and Vice-president for business and product development of Bluepharma (a Pharmaceutical Company located in Portugal) and a research member at the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra. His research activity has been focused on the development of targeted nanocarriers for drug and nucleic acid delivery aiming at their application for gene therapy. He has published more than 150 SCI journal papers, 11 book chapters, 9 patents and he is the author/co-author of over 250 presentations in international conferences and workshops. Over the last years, he has conducted several research projects in the field of Biotechnology and gained a significant expertise on the development, industrial transfer and manufacturing of pharmaceutical dosage forms for the European and US market. Co-founder and share-holder of companies operating in the field of Pharmaceutics/drug development.

Short biography
Vera Moura completed her BSc degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and her PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in the area of targeted therapies in Oncology. She is co-author of three patents granted in USA, 2 PCTs currently under evaluation and of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. She was awarded with the best thesis award 2011 (2nd place) from the Portuguese Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPCF) and the Spanish-Portuguese Local Chapter of Controlled Release Society (SPLC-CRS). As co-author of the project Smart Medicines, she was awarded in the Entrepreneurship contests “Arrisca Coimbra 2009” and “Idea to Product 2010 (I2P)”. She has collaborated with the Tech Transfer Office from the University of Coimbra as a Manager for Science and Technology and was Mentor in the Iberian Entrepreneurship Course CEBT 2011, with the University of Coimbra, University of Beira Interior and University of Aveiro, CEC/CCIC (Conselho Empresarial do Centro / Câmara de Comércio e Indústria do Centro), and Castilla y Leon: Universidad de Salamanca, Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, Fundación Universidad de Valladolid e Universidad de León. Her research work has led to the creation of TREAT U, a spin-off company from the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology from the University of Coimbra, from which she is co-founder and current CEO.
